Kieran studied fine art at Limerick School of Art and Design from 1993 – 1997, which included a six-month Erasmus at L'Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels (http://www.arba-esa.be/fr/home.php). Since graduating from Art College he has exhibited his artwork extensively and has received many private commissions. In 2005 Kieran attended the University of Wales Newport where he completed a Post Graduate Certification in Education. After moving to Cardiff in 2013 he became a member of the Kings Road Artist Studios for over two years before returning to Ireland in 2016.
As an artist he is interested in creating work that explores his fascination with abstract expressionism. Combining ideas of Automatic Drawing and Abstraction he works within the informal languages of painting and drawing investigating ideas of complexity in painting, notions of expression and gesture, pictorial structure and colour relationships. The essence of the work becomes apparent as he leaves behind the need for a narrative shifting the focus on the viewer’s experience and subconscious when presented with the work
